A star India Youth Scholarship - Conducted by the Education Department, Singapore Government.

Applications for the 2012 A*STAR India Youth Scholarship are now closed. We thank all applicants for your interest. The 2013 A*STAR India Youth Scholarship applications will commence in June 2012.

 

Exam pattern as told to us by our students:

English: It includes essay and general questions about English

Mental Ability: Anyone who has given NTSE exam can go through the Mental ABility problems.

Maths: Indeed very tough. The syllabus is bit more than the 8th class. Example: They ask to find out the equation of the line, problems of permutation and combination.

The A*STAR India Youth Scholarship is tenable for 4 years leading to the award of the Singapore-Cambridge General Certificate of Education ‘Advanced’ (GCE ‘A’) Level (or equivalent) certificate.

The Scholarship is for studies in selected Singapore schools from Secondary Three to Pre-University Two and is renewed annually, subject to the satisfactory performance of the scholar.

Outstanding A*STAR India Youth Scholars may be further identified for the A*STAR Young Researchers Attachment Programme.

Eligibility

Interested candidates who meet the following criteria are invited to apply for the scholarship:

  • Nationals of India
  • Born between 1995 and 1997
  • Completed Standard 8 in the Year 2011
  • Possess outstanding academic track record (at least an average of 80% / minimum ‘A’ with English as first language in the Standards 7 and 8 school final examinations
  • Possess a high level of oral and written competency in English

Candidates short-listed for the selection test/interview will be notified a week before the selection test/interview dates. We regret that only short-listed candidates will be notified.

# These test/interview centres may be used if there are sufficient candidates. Applicants who choose Bangalore, Calcutta, Chennai or Mumbai as your preferred test/interview city are to indicate an alternative test/interview city.

Terms and Conditions

  • Allowance of S$2,200 (Secondary) / S$2,400 (Pre-University) per annum with hostel accommodation
  • Settling-in allowance of S$400 (once only)
  • Economy class air passage to Singapore and back to home country upon completion of course
  • Waiver of school fees (excluding miscellaneous fees)
  • Waiver of GCE ‘O’ and ‘A’ Level examination fees (once only, if applicable)
  • Subsidised medical benefits and accident insurance cover
  • There is no bond attached to the scholarship

Application Procedures

There are 2 modes of application — online or hardcopy application. Each applicant should submit only ONE application and the online mode is recommended. Please do not send in a hardcopy application if you have already applied for the scholarship online and vice versa.

Please submit your application via our online application system.

1(b) Hardcopy application

If unable to submit an online application, applicants may also print out and send in a copy of the application form

Step 2 [for all applicants]

All applicants are to send certified copies of the following items directly to the Singapore Ministry of Education. The documents should arrive before the closing date (18 July 2011):

  • Birth Certificate;
  • Identity Card / Passport (if any); and
  • Final Examination Result Slips for the last two years (Standards 7 and 8)
