SCRA (Special Class Railway Apprentice)

The selected candidates undergo a four-year rigorous training programme in Mechanical Engineering, for which IRIMEE (Indian Railway Institute of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering) has a Memorandum of Understanding with BIT, Mesra, Ranchi. The semester system of BIT, Mesra is followed, with workshop training sessions during the holidays at BIT, Mesra.Jamalpur Railway Workshops is the biggest industrial setup of Bihar.

The on-job training is conducted during the semester breaks of BIT, Mesra. During the shop sessions the SCRAs are attached to the different units of Jamalpur Workshops.

SCRAs get a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Mechanical Engineering, recognised by the All India Council for Technical Education.

After successful completion of four years of training, the candidates join as Indian Railway Services of Mechanical Engineers (IRSME) Officers in Indian Railways.
