- STSE: State Talent Search Examination also known as 1st round or stage of NTSE and is conducted at the state level.

Information about NTSE 2009-2010 1st round i.e. STSE
- Conducted for only 8th class studying students.
- The Scholarship in Basic Sciences is provided up to PhD level while in professional courses like engineering, medical, law and mgmt scholarship is provided up to post graduation.
- Total Scholarship: 1000
- Scholarship amount: Rs 500/month
- Reservation: 15% for SC, 7.5% to ST and 3% to PH
- State quota is there in the first round while no state quota in the final award of the scholarship
- Prospective date for students in India:
- Last date for submission: 31st Aug 2009- May vary from state to state
- First (State)round exam in most of the states: 8th Nov 2009
- Second (National)round by NCERT: 9th May 2010
- As per NCERT paper will have 90 questions each in MAT and SAT in the first round.

NTSE Exam Pattern
NTSE First Stage Examination consists of 2 parts (can vary in some states):
- Mental Ability test (MAT): 90 Questions, 90 minutes
- Scholastic Aptitude test (SAT): 90 Questions (35 questions from Science, 35 questions from Social Studies and
20 questions from Mathematics) 90 minutes.
NTSE Second Stage Examination consists of 2 parts:
- Mental Ability test (MAT): 100 Questions, 90 minutes
- Scholastic Aptitude test (SAT): 100 Questions (35 questions from Science, 35 questions from Social Studies and 20 questions from Mathematics, 10 Question Fill up theblank type ), 90 minutes.
NTSE Third Stage Examination consists of interview:
- Student who qualifies second stage appera in Interview.
How to Apply for NTSE:
- 1st round is at state level, which is normally held in November. It is conducted at the state level. In some states, application form (July-August)can be downloaded from the website and in some states, you have to collect from the designated centres in the city.
- Submit/Send the completely filled application form as per the instructions on the form. Normally it should be attested by the principal of your school and send by the school authorities to the concerned state.
- If you qualifies 1st round, then you are eligible for the 2nd round (national level) , the exam will be conducted in May next year.
- Selected students will appear in the interview (to see the interview venues for NTSE 2009, Click here).Interview from July last week to Aug second week.
Correspondence Course for NTSE
Correspondence course includes complete study material for first round, question bank and model papers. If student enrolled for full course (example: 1 year course) clears first round then model papers and question bank for stage 2 would be provided free of cost.
Contact Session: Proposed 3 days (8 hrs/day) contact session for 8th studying students in Sept/Oct for the Correspondence course students in particule regions subjected to minimum correspondence of 100 in that particular region.
