From the Academic Session 2004 - 05, Indian Institutes of Technology have started conducting a Joint Admission Test for M.Sc. (JAM). The objective of JAM is to provide admissions to various M.Sc., Joint M.Sc.-Ph.D., M.Sc.-Ph.D. Dual Degree and other post-bachelor degree programmes at the IITs based on the performance in a single test and to consolidate Science as a career option for bright students from across the country. In due course, JAM is also expected to become a benchmark for normalizing undergraduate level science education in the country.
The M.Sc., Joint M.Sc.-Ph.D, M.Sc.-Ph.D. Dual Degree and other post-bachelor degree programmes at the IITs offer high quality education in their respective disciplines, comparable to the best in the world. The curricula for these programmes are designed to provide the students with opportunities to develop academic talent leading to challenging and rewarding professional life. The curricula are regularly updated at each IIT. The interdisciplinary content of the curricula equips the students with the ability to utilize scientific knowledge for practical applications. The medium of instruction in all the programmes is English
- Joint Admission Test for M.Sc. (JAM) 2012 will be held on 12 February, 2012 (Sunday) for admission to M.Sc. (twoyear),
Joint M.Sc.-Ph.D, M.Sc.-Ph.D. Dual degree and other post-bachelor’s degree programmes at the IITs [Bombay
(IITB), Delhi (IITD), Guwahati (IITG), Hyderabad (IITH), Kanpur (IITK), Kharagpur (IITKgp), Madras (IITM) and Roorkee
(IITR)] for the academic session 2012-13.
- JAM 2012 is open to all nationals. However, foreign nationals will be required
to satisfy the rules and regulations of the admitting Institute(s) pertaining to foreign students for admission.
- JAM 2012 is being organized by IIT Bombay. All correspondence related to JAM 2012 must be addressed to Organizing
Chairman, JAM 2012, IIT Bombay.
- Test Papers: JAM 2012 will have eight test papers, namely, Biotechnology (BT), Chemistry (CY), Computer Applications (CA), Geology (GG), Geophysics (GP), Mathematical Statistics (MS), Mathematics (MA) and Physics (PH),
each of three hours duration. The questions for BT and CA test papers will be fully objective type. The questions for the
other test papers will be objective-cum-subjective type. A candidate can appear in either one or two test papers
subject to the restrictions of test schedule given below and with an additional fee for the second test paper.

- A candidate can apply/register for JAM 2012 either OFFLINE or ONLINE.
- For OFFLINE process, application forms along with information brochures can be obtained on cash payment from designated branches of the Canara Bank from 22 September, 2011 to 22 October, 2011. The
application material can also be obtained by post from the JAM office of IIT Bombay by sending a request along with a
self-addressed slip and a crossed Demand Draft towards application fee (see the table below) latest by 18 October, 2011. The application material will be sent by Registered Post/Speed Post.
- For ONLINE process, candidates can register at the website: http://www.iitb.ac.in/jam from 22 September, 2011 to 25 October, 2011 and send a print-out of completed application form along with the Demand Draft to JAM Office, IIT
Bombay.

Note: JAM 2012 Committee may drop any place as a test centre at its own discretion.
Admission to the above mentioned academic programmes in IITs for the academic session 2012-13 will be made on the
basis of all India merit list of JAM 2012. Candidates who qualify in any test paper are eligible to apply for admission to
all the academic programmes corresponding to that test paper, provided they also satisfy the minimum educational
qualifications and the essential eligibility requirements, as specified by the Institute(s) in which the admission is
sought.
After the declaration of JAM 2012 results, qualified candidates are required to apply on prescribed admission
form, listing all the programmes, for which the admission is sought, to the Organizing Institute (IIT Bombay).
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR ADMISSION:
• At least 55% aggregate marks (taking into account all subjects, including languages and subsidiaries, all years
combined) for General/OBC Category candidates and at least 50% aggregate marks (taking into account all
subjects, including languages and subsidiaries, all years combined) for SC/ST and PD Category candidates in the
qualifying degree.
• For candidates with letter grades/CGPA (instead of percentage of marks) the equivalence in percentage of marks
will be decided by the admitting institute(s).
• Proof of having passed the qualifying degree with required eligibility, as specified by the admitting institute will be
submitted by 30 September 2012.
