Honda dumping defected cars in India - Last updated in Feb 2011

Honda Jazz being sold in India has manufacturing defect that Honda is not addressing and fooling the
Indian customer. Mr Chandresh Prakash purchased a defective car on 27th November 2010.

Overall a very bad experience by Mr Chandresh Prakash and Others

=======================================================================

The entire lot of car produced seems to have defect but Honda executives are not listening. They are not giving address of the office so that legal notice can be send and delivered!!!

If this would have been the case in US, by this time the entire lot of cars would have been recalled.

Please post this message at other forums to teach honda not to discriminate between Indian customers and European customers.

http://www.journalhome.com/kcnViper/133786/the-new-honda-jazz-has-a-manufacturing-defect.html

Below is the correspondence (by email) between consumer and Honda Company. The response by Honda company is too poor. If the same response would have been in US, they would have been replying the same in the court. In India they are enjoying the status!! corruption rules in India? Helf fighting against the greedy Honda's.

Email all your friends, organisations to teach such companies some sort of tutorial!

In brief there are two main defects in the car:

  1. Faulty petrol lid cover -  If Honda says that this is the feature, why no LED / Indicator etc not given on the dashboard?
    1. The petrol tank cover can be partially opened even when the car is locked.
    2. The petrol tank cover is totally open when the car is unlocked.
  2. Faulty central lock system - When we unlock the car , the setting (petrol lid cover)doesn't remain the same after you unlock the car. May be there must be some other thing which is not properly maintained by central lock

Wanna see the list of car stolen in India and their recovery? It around 10% in Delhi!! : Click here

Till now many people have already confirmed about the same defect in Honda Jazz:

  1. Chandresh Prakash from Delhi - Purchased car in Nov 2010 from Gurgoan (Ring Road Showroom) - All cars in this showroom has this defect
  2. Arun Kumar from Mumbai - Purchase car in April 2010 from Mumbai (Arya Honda)
  3. Jaydeep Roy from Bangalore - Car purchased in Oct 2010

Special Note:
 As per Honda Care India:
1. Honda customer care executive Garima said that they are not authorized to:
a. give the address of the Head Office of Honda in India !!!
b. give the email and/or other contact details of CEO or Head of Customer Care.

The emails with various Honda executives and seems to be so confusing!! Honda acting as per their plan!!

FYI: for further publishing at different forums.
I have also created a blog for this defect: http://www.journalhome.com/kcnViper/133786/the-new-honda-jazz-has-a-manufacturing-defect.html
In Brief: Honda Jazz being sold in India has manufacturing defect that Honda is not addressing and fooling the
Indian customer. I purchased a defective car on 27th November and it has not been rectified yet !!! For details, please read my first mail to Honda below and the other mails.

From Chandresh to Honda by email on 10th Jan 2011.

Hi,

For quick understanding of defect in Indian version of Honda Jazz, please see the video:

Honda Jazz being sold in India is a substandard car with serious safety concerns. The defect shown in the above video is present in all showroom cars (verified in Gurgoan and Mumbai) and in already sold cars since at least April 2010.

Sadly, Honda is careless about the serious problems for the customer:

1. The petrol tank cover can be partially opened even when the car is locked.
2. The petrol tank cover is totally open when the car is unlocked.

These are serious problems which have not been answered in this communication as well as in direct conversation with showroom and honda executives. Honda has refused to provide the Head Office address so that official communication may not be made to them about it.

As a result of this serious issue that Honda refuses to acknowledge:

1. Deadly accident is possible if the petrol tank is open and the car meets an accident or otherwise.  Honda has to own the responsibility for damages from such an accident.

2. Will any insurance cover damages from such an accident ?

3. Mental harassment as every time I am drving and also if my family member is driving, I would be always tensed to know that if he/she has checked the same. If my friends ask for the car, I have to tell him/her about the defect first. Many times in professional life all of this matters, thus embarrassing me in front of my seniors/clients. In professional world such issues matter a lot.
4. Petrol theft is another problem that one may face regularly.
This defect is in no other car but in Honda Jazz which Honda is bent on selling to unsuspecting Indian customers. This problem is not there in the cars in USA as the petrol tank is on the same side as the driver.

Honda has refused to provide the following documents and information:
1. Head Office address where legal communication may be made.
2. Standard operating procedure (SOP) and demo-video to operate the lid of the petrol tank.
3. Information about other Jazz owners who may be communicated of the problem. As unknown to them, they may succumb to injuries due to this defect. Worse will be "Insurance will most likely not cover the damages due to this defect." Honda is willingly not giving information as the number of satisfied customers would be very less.

Sincere request to Honda:
1. Please urgently inform all Jazz owners of the vulnerabilities.
2. Expedite a complete recall of Jazz and fix the cars.
3. Apologise for the serious error built into the car.
4. I have been waiting for your reply with relevant details (SOP / Demo video). Hope you understand the pain which I have received from you after spending Rs 7.5 lakhs. Sincere request to Honda to stop harassing me.

My sincere request to all:
1. Please send mail to Honda India<customer_relations@hondacarindia.com> and let them know that this is a serious problem.
2. If you are a Honda Jazz customer, please register complaint at http://ccccore.co.in/
3. Please send this mail to all the people in your address book and everyone you know. Honda must understand that corruption aside, it cannot play with the lives of its Indian customers - selling them substandard vehicles.
4. If you have media contact, please let them know. I will be more than happy to assist them in publishing about this defect in Honda Jazz in India.

I am complete fed up with Honda. They have harrassed me mentally and physically by making me explain this issue in great detail to dozens of their executives at their showroom, my residence and on phone. It has taken 1.5 months for them to decide that it is a feature and not a defect. For a car worth 7.5 lacs, being the costliest in its segment, no one would knowingly buy such a defective substandard car.
Request Honda to stop acting like a dumb company and properly address all the concerns.

Regards,
 Chandresh

Dear Mr.Prakash,

This is in reference to your mail dated January 10,2011.

Opening of fuel lid has been made user friendly and is a product feature. We wish to inform that all product features and upgradation are done in the product based on intensive market research and our customer expectations.

With reference to inspection of your Honda Jazz with our Area Manager,Service,Mr.Deepak Soni, we wish to inform that there has been no abnormality observed in functioning of petrol tank lid.

As acknowledged in your mail, this is a feature present in other countries too. Pls be assured that it is Honda's ernest efforts to bring newer technology in India. However, your valuable feedback is valuable to us and will be forwarded to concerned department. It will help us improvise our products and services at all time.

With regards to your concern of fuel theft, we would take this opportunity to inform that there is a fuel filler pipe which eventually leads to the tank and is long enough to avoid fuel theft. Also, pls be informed that one way valve entry is incorporated in the fuel tank to prevent fuel theft.

You will acknowledge that safety of occupants is of utmost importance to us. Pls be informed that the fuel tank lid also locks when car is centrally locked.

We hope the above answers your apprehensions and thank you for sparing your time in writing to us.

With Regards,

Nikita Saluja

1. I had a discussion with Mr. Deepak Soni (Area Manager - Service) on Friday for about an hour. His first take was that it is a feature and not a defect. After some discussion, he acknowledged it to be a lacuna and then a discomfort. I am not sure what these terms mean as per Honda terminology. It seems Honda
is not clear whether it is a feature or a lacuna or a discomfort. Regardless of Honda terminology, from my perspective it is a clear defect and I have no intention of driving this car for the rest of its life. My sincere request to Honda is to avoid trouble for me and thyself by replacing the defective part.
